The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is recruiting several Wildlife Biologist positions in the department!

Wildlife Biologist 1/2 located in Anchorage
What you will be doing:
This flexibly-classed position is designed to facilitate entry into the wildlife biologist series and provides a training path in order to advance within the job class to the full working potential of Wildlife Biologist 2. The incumbent is responsible for providing support to the Division of Wildlife Conservation`s wildlife management and informational programs in Region II, and is directly supervised by the Regional Wildlife Biologist 4 who makes assignments in which the scope, objectives, priorities, timelines, methods, and techniques are well defined and established. This position will oversee the daily operations of the Region`s public information center in Anchorage and technical staff located within the division`s Southcentral regional office.
- Supervise a small team and provide direction on daily activities and ensure required trainings are completed.
- Provide information and services to the public about wildlife, hunting, and trapping in Region 2.
- Respond to public inquiries and reports of human-wildlife interactions or injured wildlife.
- Enforcing fish and game statutes and regulations
- Perform duties of a management technical assistant by monitoring hunts, developing and maintaining data files, updating public information, summarizing in-season harvests for the area management biologist, and assisting in writing post-season hunt reports and tables.
- Conduct aerial surveys of moose, sheep, mountain goats, caribou, bears, wolves, and furbearers from fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
- With supervision, capture, handle, and mark wildlife using helicopter and ground darting capture techniques.
- Organize and present data for reports, compile information, perform basic statistical computations, write simple reports.

The working conditions you can expect:
The position is located in Anchorage, with occasional travel required for fieldwork or to assist in other offices or as the Regional representative on statewide committees. Primary responsibilities include supervision of one Fish &Wildlife Technician 4, two Fish & Wildlife Technician 3’s, and other seasonal staff. Primary job duties include directing the activities of the Information Center, answering public questions in-person, by email, and by phone and sealing harvested wildlife. This position assists with monitoring and evaluating wildlife populations, including moose, caribou, sheep, mountain goat, brown bear, black bear, wolves, furbearers, and small game. This position will also assist with conducting aerial surveys as needed. Daily use of electronic databases and strong attention to detail is required.

Regional Biologist (WBIII)
This position serves as a regional biologist for interior and northeast Alaska. Primary duties include supervising the regional office’s Wildlife Information Center and Harvest Monitoring Program Staff which includes a Project Assistant, Statistical Technician, four (4) Wildlife Technicians and a College Intern. Other duties include assisting the area, assistant area, and research biologists with survey, inventory, and research projects; serving on statewide committees related to the implementation of new regulations and harvest reporting; reviewing and issuing emergency orders and advisory announcements; and preparing and presenting regional proposals to the Board of Game.

Fairbanks Assistant Area Biologist (WBII):
This position serves as the Assistant Area Biologist for the Fairbanks area which includes Game Management Units 20A, 20B, 20C, 20F, and 25C. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with planning, developing, coordinating, conducting and evaluating complex management programs for big game, small game, furbearers and other species. Management of moose, caribou, sheep, bears, wolves and furbearers are all part of normal duties.

2 Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 positions in Fairbanks:
What you will be doing:
This position is a primary source of public information and public service in the Fairbanks ADF&G Public Information Center, providing customers with information about the area, explaining hunting and trapping regulations, issuing permits and harvest tickets, selling licenses and tags, and collecting and recording harvest reports. The incumbent seals animals such as bears, furbearers, and sheep on a regular basis, maintains vehicles and equipment, and classifies, analyses, and summarizes harvest data. Fieldwork includes responding to nuisance wildlife situations, acting as observer during aerial wildlife surveys, and occasional wildlife capture work.
